Taiwan’s airlines to up overseas flight surcharges TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwanese airline companies will increase fuel surcharges on overseas flights by 12.5 percent because of an increase in the price of crude oil. The airlines will raise the levy on short-haul flights by US$2.50 to US$22.50 and on flights to the U.S. and Europe by US$6.50 to US$58.50, the island’s transport ministry said on its Web site today. The increases will take effect on Dec. 17, it said. China Airlines and EVA Airways Corp. are the two biggest airlines in Taiwan. Crude oil prices have risen 44.7 percent this year. The oil’s futures for January delivery recently traded at US$88.38 a barrel. |
