BANGKOK, Thailand -- Fire swept through part of a low income community Wednesday evening in the Thai capital Bangkok, burning down at least 20 houses, police said. No casualties were immediately reported in the blaze in Bangkok's downtown Sathorn neighborhood, said police Lt. Col. Kittiphan Chunthakarn, chief of Thung Mahamek precinct.

He said the fire, which occurred in an area where about 500 old wooden houses are packed together on narrow streets, was put under control after an hour, despite difficulties faced by emergency vehicles in getting through rush-hour traffic. The cause of the fire was not yet known, he said.
