HANOI -- Blue-eared pig disease, which has ravaged swine populations in central and southern Vietnam, has spread to the capital, the national animal health department said Tuesday. The virus was discovered at a private farm in Gia Lam district of Hanoi after 12 piglets tested positive for the disease, also known as porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, it said in an online report.

Animal health workers have slaughtered the infected beasts and established a quarantine zone, it said.
