HANOI, Vietnam -- North Korea's Prime Minister Kim Yong-il will pay an official visit to Vietnam this week to boost ties between two of the world's last remaining communist countries, state media and officials said. This visit follows a trip to Pyongyang last week by the head of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Nong Duc Manh.

Kim is expected to arrive in Hanoi on Friday for a four-day visit, the Communist Party's newspaper Nhan Dan (People) reported on its front page. Vietnam and North Korea have long been ideological allies, but trade and economic ties remain weak. Manh's visit to North Korea was the first by a Vietnamese leader in 50 years.
