BEIJING -- China on Thursday defended the actions of police who physically restrained South Korean diplomats trying to stop the arrest of North Korean refugees in Beijing. A Chinese spokesman instead accused the South Korean consular officials of obstructing police at the Korean International School in Beijing, where the four North Koreans had sought refuge in an apparent botched asylum bid. “During this case, the consular officials, regardless of international law and their positions, obstructed Chinese police in performing their duties,” foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said at a regular press briefing.
