HSINCHU, Taiwan -- A suspect in a karaoke bar shooting in Shulin on Aug. 5 was arrested in Hsinchu yesterday, agents of the Criminal Investigation Bureau said.

They identified him only as Yang.

Yang was charged with shooting a China-based Taiwanese businessman, and referred to the Panchiao district court for prosecution.

The businessman, known only by his family name of Ho, visited the karaoke bar in downtown Shulin. A friend of his had a row with Yang, a partner of the bar owner, CIB agents said.

Ho tried to mediate, CIB agents said. “Yang drew a pistol and shot, and the bullet hit Ho,” one agent added.

The victim was taken to the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in nearby Linkou, where doctors treated his gun wound, while Yang went into hiding.
