Over 1,000 take part in Vietnam cultural festival More than 1,000 people participated in a Vietnamese cultural festival held in Taipei City Sunday for migrant workers from Vietnam to celebrate their nation's Independence Day. The festival was held at the city's 228 Memorial Park and organized by the Taipei city government's Department of Labor, a local official said. The official said Taipei has nearly 7,000 migrant workers from Vietnam, accounting for 20 percent of all foreign workers in the city. Most migrant workers from Vietnam are domestic helpers. According to the official, Independence Day is a very important festival in Vietnam. The nation grants amnesties to prisoners and holds ceremonies and military parades in the capital city of Hanoi, while celebrations are organized all over the country. Sunday's festival was aimed at allowing cultural exchanges between Vietnamese and Taiwanese, easing the homesickness of workers from Vietnam and thanking them for their contributions to the city, the official said. |
