Ketamine destined for Spring Scream A man who was arrested yesterday admitted that he intended to produce 200 kilograms of the illicit drug ketamine in time for the Kenting Spring Scream festival, police in Pingtung said. Chiu Wen-jen, 32, was arrested yesterday with one kilogram of ketamine and 36 more in its unrefined form. Chiu was arrested by police at a betel nut farm located in southern Pingtung county where he was producing the recreational drug, which is also used as a popular anesthetic in veterinary medicine. According to police, Chiu said he intended to sell the drug at the Kenting Spring Scream festival, where dozens of local and international music bands perform every year. This year, some 200,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which starts tomorrow and continues through the weekend. When questioned by police, Chiu had initially said that he was making Chinese traditional medicine, but was soon caught in his lie, according to the United Evening News. The smell emanating from the room where Chiu was making the drug was so foul that some police officers felt nauseous, while others resorted to wearing masks before forcing into the room. Chiu also admitted to police that a veteran drug dealer taught him a special method of making the drug in one-third of the time that it took others to make. |
