Brazil to set up World Cup training camp in Ulsan, S. Korea

Four-time world champions Brazil has decided on South Korea's southeastern coastal city of Ulsan for its training camp during next year's World Cup, officials said Monday.

Ulsan, 320 kilometers (200 miles) southeast of Seoul, is home to several major industrial plants, including those of Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest carmaker, and Hyundai Heavy Industries, which has the world's largest shipyard.

"We have received an official notification from Brazil that they will set up their training camp here from May 21-June 14," said Heo Eon-wook, chief of Ulsan city's Culture and Sports Bureau. Brazil will sign a contract in January, he added.

Brazil is in Group C with Turkey, China and Costa Rica. The teams will play their three first-round matches in South Korea.

Brazil will use a field inside Bangeojin Sports Park near the Hyundai shipyard, officials said.

Next year's World Cup, which will run May 31-June 30, is the first to be held in Asia. As co-hosts, South Korea and Japan will equally split 64 matches.
