Updated Tuesday, October 16, 2007 0:00 am TWN, By Raymond Ma, Special to The China Post Teacher Chang Foundation helps 26,000 smokers quitHosted by the Teacher Chang Foundation at the Chien-Tan Overseas Youth Activity Center, the workshop gathered over 60 professionals and representatives of non-profit organizations from 14 different countries in the Asia-Pacific region. “In 2002, 48.2 percent of adult males and 5.8 percent of adult females in Taiwan were smokers. In just three years, those numbers decreased to 39.9 and 4.8 percent, respectively. This is solid progress, but there is still room for improvement,” said Chao Kun-yu, vice director general of the Bureau of Health Promotion, Department of Health.
