Environment Programme chief Achim Steiner said both the IPCC and Gore have hugely contributed to highlighting climate change. “The Nobel Peace Prize Committee has today made it clear that combating climate change is a central peace and security policy for the 21st century,” Steiner said in a statememt. “The two winners ... have contributed significantly to elevating public attention on the issue of global warming while outlining the enormous risks but also the enormous opportunities confronting the world.” The pair were rewarded “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change,” the Nobel Peace Prize committee said. | Breaking News Most Read |
