CWB expected to issue land warning for Typhoon KrosaThe CWB warned all ships operating in the Bashi Channel (between Taiwan and the Philippines) and seas off Taiwan’s northern and southeastern coasts to be on the alert for strong winds and high waves. As of 5 p.m., Krosa was centered 690 kilometers east-southeast of Oluanpi — the southernmost tip of Taiwan — moving northwest at 15 kph and packing maximum sustained winds of 173 kph, CWB meteorologists said. The typhoon is likely to continue to increase in intensity, eliciting the issuing of a land warning this morning, they added. According to the course of the typhoon’s movement, it is expected to move 370 km east of the southern tip of Taiwan by 5 p.m. today. The outer rim of Typhoon Krosa — with a radius of 250 km — will cover the entire island tomorrow. If there is no change in its course, Krosa will get even closer with its eye moving across northern Taiwan by Sunday, when its impact on the island will be the greatest, the CWB forecasted. The weather conditions will remain unstable for the entire island starting from today, with sporadic rain forecast for northern and northeastern Taiwan, CWB forecasters said. | ||||||||||||||||||||
