Taiwan shares rise slightly amid mixed tech performanceThe Weighted Price Index of the Taiwan Stock Exchange rose 28.22 points, or 0.3 percent, to close at 8,718.31 points. The index opened strong following Wall Street gains on Friday, but fell back because of weak investor confidence. Derek Lam of Fubon Securities said investors took the sideline ahead of the release of U.S. economic data on home sales and consumer confidence this week. "The index needs several weeks to consolidate near this level," Lam said. He tipped shares to trade in the 8,600-8,850 band Tuesday. In Monday's trading, Hon Hai Precision Industry ended up 4.6 percent to close at NT$240.50 after going ex-dividend, and AU Optronics gained 1.5 percent to NT$49.55. But Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing ended flat at NT$61.60, while Quanta Computer shed 4.9 percent to close at NT$52.60. | |||||||||||||
