The ensemble dramedy “Feast of Love” wears its big, kind heart very much on its sleeve. And, for nearly two hours, it suffocates viewers with its hopelessly romantic and relentlessly optimistic outlook on life and love.

Didn’t actor Jason Biggs already do the whole geeky groom thing in “American Wedding,” the last theatrical installment in the genre-defining “American Pie” series? Well, Biggs recycles the routine in “Wedding Daze,” a derivative and desperate attempt to rebottle that “American Pie” magic, but for a slightly older audience.

Jim Carrey doesn’t make an appearance in “Evan Almighty,” the spinoff from his 2003 holy hit “Bruce Almighty,” but his absence is very much felt in every frame. This week’s meager offering also falls victim to the curse that strikes Carrey-less sequels to the funnyman’s vehicles. Think “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd” or “Son of the Mask,” both shameless attempts featuring B-list talent to cash in on Carrey’s greatest hits.

Some time after the wrong coffin ends up at the service but before the dwarf pops up in the casket with his head buried in the deceased’s crotch, one of the characters in the dark comedy “Death at a Funeral” notes that the titular occasion is generally a somber and dignified affair. “It’s not supposed to be fun,” he concludes.
