They have gathered to debate the sexual education of their fourth grade children. But sexuality is still an unresolved issue for many of the parents themselves. They are forced to re-examine their own views of sex as they make concerted efforts to reawaken their long-buried sensual side, leading to sometimes tragic and sometimes hilarious effects. Young school teacher Luisa (Sigrid Alegria) proposes a debate about sex during the meeting. Luisa is a young independent woman that is split between the love for her young partner, painter Valentin (Francisco Perez-Bannen), and her experienced lover, successful writer Jorge (Patricio Contreras), who is also the father of one of her students. The film also draws the spotlight on Alvaro (Alvaro Rudolphy) and his pregnant wife Elena (Cecilia Amenabar) and the butcher Emilio (Boris Quercia) and his frigid wife Maca (Maria Izquierdo). When Emilio's liberated and independent niece Susan (Javiera Diaz de Valdes) spends a couple of days at his home, he is seduced by the sexy and gorgeous young woman, while Maca finds her sexuality by reading magazines and going to the gynecologist. In one memorable scene, Maca engages in sexual experiments with a zucchini. The film tells the story of how three couples profess undying love to their partners while sleeping around with one another. The film's humor has a sometimes entertaining, sometimes crude tone. Director Boris Quercia (who plays Emilio) blends sexually charged scenes and raucous comedy, without imposing judgment. The voyeuristic look of his camera and his involvement, embodying the character with the most shocking behavior, clearly shows that he doesn't pretend to point a finger, but rather shows the true nature of human beings. "Sex With Love" delivers a self-mocking approach and doses of humor which help avoid the trap of vulgarity. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
