Percy tiresome

"Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" debuts in theaters this month in 3D, following the first movie in the series,"Percy Jackson and the Olympians"from three years ago. Logan Lerman plays Percy Jackson, who in the first movie discovers his true identity as a demigod and the son of Poseidon, the God of the Sea.
'Planes' never soars

"Planes," the new animated action adventure from Disney, is a jaunty excursion into the wild blue yonder where planes do the talking, as well as the flying, and a crop-dusting underdog dreams of making the Wings Around the Globe racing circuit.
'Elysium' strikes equilibrium

"Elysium" will inevitably be compared to Neill Blomkamp's masterpiece debut "District 9." Indeed verdicts have already been passed down of it being disappointing and falling short of expectations. However, for originality, visual craft, discussed themes and its storyline, it does strive to be much more than your average Friday night movie.
Rest in peace before watching 'R.I.P.D'

Try to think of some cliches. Write down a bunch and come back. I'll give you a minute… You done? Right, let's compare answers. Here's what I've got: Cops get suspended from duty for not doing things by the book, but they still save the day. A regular Joe wants to be a better provider to his wife, but she says "I have everything I need right here." A dog barks to warn of danger that is imperceptible to humans. Buried treasure.
Coming to theaters at the speed of slime

For an entertaining, heartwarming flick, watch this amicable garden snail escargot, escargoing and escargone. This one shell of an idea combines the two most unlikely elements together -- race cars and snails -- into a feel-good family-friendly film.
'Conjuring' more than just fear

Rated "R" with no nudity, sex or profanity, "The Conjuring" is labeled with this warning as it may just be too terrifying for younger audiences. Set in a backwoods fixer-upper that is scary enough from a homeowner's point of view, this film is a frightfest of nail-biting terror waiting around every corner -- on top of the wardrobe, behind the door, and yes, in the boarded-up basement.

The Chinese pursuit of the American Dream

Hong Kong director Peter Ho-Sun Chan's (陳可辛) most Chinese-style film, "American Dreams in China" (海闊天空), centers on the lives of three people; Cheng Dongqing, Meng Xiaojun and Wang Yang, who come from different backgrounds but have one thing in common -- the dream of getting a visa to the U.S. and living out their American dreams.

'The Wolverine:' a cut below the rest

In a flash of adamantium and Japanese steel, the Wolverine has finally returned to the silver screen, with Hugh Jackman reprising the role of the seemingly immortal, ever-troubled mutant hero in the sixth installment of the X-Men franchise.
Not so 'Blind Detective'

Mingling elements of crime, drama, comedy, romance and gastronomy, Hong Kong director Johnnie To's (杜琪峯) new film, "Blind Detective" (盲探), gives away a strong HK flavor with a high dose of slapstick humor. Starring veteran actors and actresses, including Andy Lau (劉德華) and Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), the mixed-genre movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival's midnight sidebar last May.

Family fun with 'Escape from Planet Earth'
