Nine films advance in Oscars foreign-language race
Nine movies have made the cut to compete for a nomination for the best foreign-language film Oscar, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Thursday.

Hollywood actress Julia Roberts is the latest star planning to head to the small screen, reports said Thursday.

'Rogue One' is a dark, exhilarating blast
The movie seemed suspicious on paper, like any film saddled with the dreaded "spinoff" label. For a while all the odds looked stacked against "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" too -- reshoots, script changes and a director in Gareth Edwards whose last blockbuster "Godzilla" had visual flair but no humanity, ....

The rising chorus for "La La Land" is suddenly missing a very conspicuous note.

Meet the latest 'Star Wars' heroine
"Star Wars" gets a bad rap for being a boy's club, and sometimes rightfully so, but the truth of the matter is that women have always been an integral part of the George Lucas-created world and the franchise's fan base. On screen, the names Leia, Amidala and Rey are as instantly recognizable and known as any others -- and none were ever just playing "the girl."

Brat Pack, 'Roger Rabbit' added to National Film Registry
While not usually regarded as a golden age of American cinema, the 1980s produced plenty of popular classics -- and a few more of them have now been added to the prestigious National Film Registry.

'Deadpool' in, but no room for 'Silence'
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association never fails to disappoint with their assortment of nominees, which always seem to include some expected picks, some inspired ones and some headscratchers too.

'Hidden Figures' cast pays tribute to Glenn
John Glenn, depicted in "Hidden Figures" as a space trailblazer who also gave critical support to pioneering black women at NASA who helped him orbit the earth, was fondly remembered by the cast at the movie's premiere.

Disney's "Moana" has continued to sit pretty atop the box office for its third consecutive weekend, but Damien Chazelle's musical "La La Land" was what really had audiences singing this weekend.

The force is strong with "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" according to early reactions from the film's premiere Saturday night in Los Angeles.
