Taiwan computer firms more optimistic on Q2

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Taiwan computer manufacturers are more confident about their economic future in the second quarter, according to Computex Exhibitors Index released by Taiwan Computer Association (TCA) yesterday.

The index is based on the results of survey on the domestic participants of Computex Taipei 2013. The trade show has been one of the most important platforms in the world's information communications technology products sector in recent years.

TCA conducted its business confidence survey on domestic exhibitors of Computex Taipei 2013 to gauge second-quarter outlook. The survey results indicate an average of 1.77, which falls inside the "above average" category.

This is the first time the index has left the "below average" area, which was where it had fallen in the last three quarters. The results of CEI declined in the second and third quarters last year, began to stop falling in the fourth quarter and slowly rebounded with in the first quarter of 2013, though the figures were still below average.

According to TCA statistics, Computex Taipei participants from optoelectronics, peripherals, storage and telecommunications industries are more optimistic about the second-quarter outlook.

The survey was conducted from March 3 to March 22, with 1080 Taiwan manufacturers registered in Computex Taipei. Nearly 300 effective samples were collected, with a recover rate of 27 percent.

In addition, TCA also conducted the same survey on visiting international buyers of Computex Taipei 2013. The index averaged 1.95, which fell inside the "above average" area, proving the business confidence level of international buyers is better than that of local manufacturers.

In particular, the index of Asia-Pacific buyers was the highest among all regions.
