Over 30% of population use smartphones: survey
CNATAIPEI -- Taiwan is currently home to some 7.07 million smartphone or tablet computer users, accounting for about 30.7 percent of its 23 million population, according to the results of a survey released yesterday.

The results of the poll, conducted by the Innovative DigiTech-Enabled Applications and Services Institute and the Department of Industrial Tech under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, show that smartphone users more than doubled as of the second quarter year-on-year, rising from 2.97 million to 6.09 million.
Meanwhile, the popularity rate for tablet computers in the same period stood at 10 percent, or 2.32 million users, the survey found.
Up to 56.8 percent and 24 percent of the Taiwanese people are expected to own smartphones and tablets, respectively, by 2015, the researchers said.
