VMAX Telecom announces newest 4G WiMAX Internet access

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- VMAX Telecom yesterday announced its newest 4G WiMAX wireless Internet access. The new technology will be launched through a pilot project that will start in Taipei during this year's third quarter.

Unlike its the former 3.5G version, that only reached speeds up to 3 MB, the 4G version can go up to 8 MB, more than 23 times the former version's speed. “Four-G offers a far superior viewing experience for streamed HD video than 3.5G service,” the creators said.

“The disparity in quality between 4G WiMAX and 3.5G service is also shown through a comparison of Google Maps Street View displayed using the two different services. With the same street view of San Francisco, VMAX Telecom's 4G WiMAX service is able to provide images that are more 'immediate,' with less delay, providing genuine real-time viewing,” a spokesman explained.

In the third quarter, VMAX Telecom will launch a pilot project targeting Taipei City's central business district. The pilot project will involve both business enterprises and ordinary consumers, according to Chao-kai Liu the telecommunication company's chairman.

Liu said that once the pilot project has been completed, VMAX Telecom intends to implement the full commercial launch of its 4G WiMAX service in the fourth quarter of 2009.

He also pointed out that the company's 4G connection has the potential to make online gaming, which he mentioned as “an increasingly popular leisure activity in today's gloomy economic climate,” a form of “portable entertainment” that people can enjoy anywhere.

“As regards other types of personal and family multimedia entertainment applications, the VMAX Telecom display also includes high-definition video, broadband IP telephony and Skype experience areas that demonstrate the faster, more convenient personal and household entertainment and communications services that people will be able to enjoy in the future,” Liu said.
