Solar-power ‘sticker lamp’ developed by HK inventor

Hong Kong -- A solar-powered lamp, which is as thin as a magazine cover and sticks onto most surfaces has been developed by a Hong Kong inventor, a media report said Saturday. The lamp won designer Keikko Lee, 26, the gold price in South Korea9s first international design competition held in October, the South China Morning Post reported.

Lee said the lamp has electroluminescent material on one side and solar panels and sensors on the other.

The lamp can be stuck to a window where the solar panels absorb sunlight to charge the lamp which can then be taken down and placed in a room to provide light at night.

“No extra electricity is needed,” said Lee, a graduate of Hong Kong Polytechnic University9s school of design. She said that because the lamp is very thin and light it could reduce complicated manufacturing procedures and save on raw materials.
