Poland rejoices in its first Michelin starAFP WARSAW -- Atelier Amaro, an eatery in the heart of Warsaw, on Thursday became the first in Poland to earn a Michelin star for culinary excellence.
March 16, 2013, 12:06 am TWN “It's the first time ever a restaurant in Warsaw has received its first star. Atelier Amaro uses local produce to create innovative cuisine and original combinations which won over inspectors,” Michelin said in a statement. “We're overjoyed, euphoric,” said Agnieszka Amaro, the woman and self-proclaimed brain behind the intimate, 32-seat restaurant created with her husband and chef Wojciech Amaro. “We want to put Poland on the culinary map of the world ... serving Polish cuisine updated and improved by my husband” she added. The venue is discreetly tucked away in a wooded area next to the capital's modern art centre in the Ujazdowski Palace and near the entrance of the Royal Lazienki Park. It first began serving up Polish specialties with an ultra-modern twist in September 2011. Dishes change with the seasons and the venue does not have a fixed menu. An electronics expert and political scientist, Wojciech Amaro, picked up cooking during an extended stay in England. His talents earned him Poland's first rising star from Michelin last year.
