BERLIN--Green is turning out to be the main trend color in current jewelry, along with gold and silver. Fashion watchers are also noticing that women are mixing inexpensive jewelry with more precious items from their collections.
According to Raphael Fischer from Germany's Association of Goldsmiths, there's high demand at the moment for silver, rose gold and white gold. “They go together very well with winter clothing because of the more muted coloring,” he says.
Thilo Brueckner from Germany's umbrella organization of jewelers says many manufacturers are also combining diamonds with colored precious stones. Green in the form of tourmaline, peridotite, emerald and jade is proving to be the color of choice for many shoppers.
Along with a trend towards expensive jewelry, shoppers are also buying less precious items to wear, according to Renate Wittgenstein from the Inhorgenta jewelry trade show in Munich.
“Shoppers are combining two or three rings at the same time and they're doing that with bracelets as well.” Wittgenstein also says there's no longer a barrier to mixing and matching high and low fashion jewelry.
“Anything goes. It just depends on the occasion.”
