Tying the knot with Taipei

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Rumor has it that all Hollywood A-list actresses have a Bottega Veneta Knot clutch bag these days. We knew that saying has more than a grain of truth in it when we saw Sandra Bullock carrying the knot bag at this year's Golden Globe ceremony, where she won the best actress award. The bag is also a favorite of Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore.

The Knot clutch has been a symbol of the brand since its birth three decades ago but scaled new heights of fashion after Tomas Maier became Bottega Veneta's creative director in 2001. Maier added to the bag a distinctive knot closure, which gave the box clutch a new life and a new name – “The Knot.” Ever since, the Knot was reinvented every season. Many styles of the Knot are extremely limited, some few as 25 pieces.

Bottega Veneta will bring the traveling exhibition, “The Knot: A Retrospective” to the new Bellavita store from March 20 to 23. Over 80 versions of the Knot will be presented.

Maier has specially designed the “Taipei Knot,” a limited edition of the Knot bag with only 50 pieces, for the new store. The Taipei Knot has vivid shades of yolk, cigar and truffle, and its surface is made of a patchwork of 25 separate pieces of leather. The bags are inscribed with the words “Taipei 2010” on a sterling plate inside the clutch, and will be on sale exclusively at the Bellavita store.
