Wanted: Antarctic plumber — radiator skills a big plus

LONDON -- Help Wanted: Plumber needed to service Britain’s Antarctic stations. Experience with central heating would be “a significant advantage.”

The British Antarctic Survey is advertising for plumbers to join its scientists on the iciest and most isolated continent in the world.

The Cambridge, England-based group, which conducts geological, environmental, and climate change research, wants qualified technicians “physically capable and medically fit to work in Antarctic conditions.”

In an advertisement posted to the survey’s Web site, it said the plumbers would be responsible for water, sewage, gas, and oil-fired boilers at its Antarctic stations. The application period closes next Friday.
