Updated Friday, July 3, 2009 10:48 am TWN, The China Post news staff Electric vehicles to be discussed at TAIFE-2009According to the Taiwan Automotive Research Consortium (TARC), which will play a key role in organizing the event, the forum will discuss two topics: EV Value Chain Strategy Proposition and EV Key-Module Industrial-Cluster Development Strategy. The forum will gather experts from Europe, America and Asia, who will share their insights into the future of the EV industry, TARC said. The following people will speak on EV Value Chain Strategy Proposition: James Wang, Deputy Director General of Mechanical and Systems Research Laboratories of Industrial Technology Research Institute; Peter Frise, CEO and Scientific Director of Auto21 Inc.; Ching-Shi Yang, Counselor and Executive Secretary of Greenhouse Gas Reduction Management of the Environmental Protection Administration; Kazuhiro Doi, General Manager Technology Marketing Department of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.; Kitagawa Fumikazu, General Manager of Global Strategy Consulting Department I of Nomura Research Institute, Ltd.; and Jung-Ho Cheng, Professor of Mechanical Engineering Department of National Taiwan University. Meanwhile, the following will speak on EV Key-Module Industrial-Cluster Development Strategy: Steve Hsiao, Director of Technical Service Department of E-One Moli Energy Corp.; Toru Amazutsumi, General Manager of Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd.; Professor Bor Yann Liaw of Hawaii University; Tadashi Takano of Keio University; Terry Peng, Lead Engineer of General Motors Corp.; and Shih-Hung Chan, Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department of Yuan Ze University. A strong focus on environmental protection has given rise to the production of electric vehicles. These vehicles include the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV). Of these vehicles, the HEV has achieved the biggest commercialization. Their parts and components such as motors and batteries are expected to bring huge business opportunities. TARC is made up of the Metal Industries Research and Development Center, Automotive Research and Testing Center (ARTC), Mechanical and System Research Laboratories of Industrial Technology Research Institute (MSL/ITRI), Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (CSIST) and Hua-Chuang Automobile Information Technical Center Co., Ltd. According to TARC, electric vehicle production will give Taiwan manufacturers a chance to transform themselves into key EV parts and components suppliers and help Taiwan become a Tier 1 parts and components production base in the Asia-Pacific region.
