Israel de facto embassy marks nation's founding

In celebration of Israel's 66th anniversary, Israel's de facto embassy in Taipei held a ball at the Palais de Chine.

The event was opened by students of the Taipei National University of the Arts.

De facto ambassador Simona Halperin said that she wants to change people's stereotypical view of Israel, adding that Israel is actually a lively and energetic nation.

The theme of this year's celebrations in Taipei centered on outstanding women. A total of 10 outstanding Israeli individuals in the fields of politics, science, education and technology were introduced, including Nobel Prize winning scientist Ada Yonath, former Prime Minister Golda Meir, Intel Israel CEO Maxine Fassberg, and actress Gal Gadot.

Israel was founded on May 14, 1948.
