Woman wounded in mail bomb blast in Athens

ATHENS, Greece -- A woman was wounded after a package exploded at a private delivery company in Athens Monday, while two other suspected mail bombs were destroyed by controlled blasts in the capital, police officials said.

The two men suspected of taking part in the attacks were arrested, police said. They were carrying handguns, wigs, and one of them was also wearing a bulletproof vest, they said.

State-run NET television reported that two of the parcels had been addressed to the embassies of Mexico and the Netherlands in Athens, but authorities did not immediately confirm the report.

Greek far-left and radical militant groups have used mail bombs in attacks in the past.

Police did not disclose the identities, or any other details on the two detained suspects.

The wounded woman was hospitalized with burns but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, authorities said. Police described the blast as small.

Police cordoned off two areas in central Athens where suspicious packages were destroyed in the controlled explosions.
