No issues with U.S. over Knox verdict: Italy

ROME -- Italy's foreign minister says there has been no adverse relations between Rome and Washington over the murder conviction of American student Amanda Knox in Italy.

Knox got 26 years in prison for murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher. The guilty verdict has stirred fears of possible diplomatic repercussions among the longtime allies.

But Foreign Minister Franco Frattini has quelled any speculations, saying Monday that no criticism had come from the U.S. State Department. He said it would be “normal” for Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton to look into the case after questions were raised by an American senator.

Clinton said Sunday she had not had time to examine the case but would meet with anyone expressing concerns. Clinton said she had not expressed any concerns to Italy.
