Austrian incest victims may get new identities

VIENNA, Austria -- The victims of the Austrian man who allegedly held his daughter captive in a windowless cell for 24 years and fathered children with her may get new identities.

Austrian public broadcaster ORF has reported that officials have drawn up documents for suspect Josef Fritzl’s daughter and the six surviving children he had with her.

ORF said Thursday that all that is needed is for the victims to sign, and the name change will be complete.

Authorities said after the case surfaced last month that Fritzl’s victims might get new identities to help them start over.
