Michael turns into seventh hurricane of Atlantic season

MIAMI -- Michael has become the seventh hurricane of the season in the Atlantic, but poses no immediate threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said that Michael was located about 1,060 miles (1,705 km) southwest of the Azores on Wednesday night. The hurricane is carrying winds of 75 mph (120 km) and moving northeast at 7 mph (11 kph).

The storm was forecast to turn toward the northwest and move more slowly over the next two days.

Michael was the second hurricane to form in the Atlantic on Wednesday, following the formation of Hurricane Leslie. As of late Wednesday night, Hurricane Leslie was centered about 445 miles (715 km) southeast of Bermuda, with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 km). It was crawling north at 2 mph (4 kph) and was expected to strengthen over the next two days.
