George W. Bush and Bill Clinton to visit Haiti

WASHINGTON -- Former U.S. presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are to visit Haiti next week in support of relief efforts in the quake-stricken Caribbean country.

“Presidents Clinton and Bush will meet with Haitians, the government of Haiti, and others providing assistance to earthquake survivors, with the goal of further establishing long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts,” a statement released Thursday said.

The two former presidents head the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, a relief organization set up in the wake of the devastating January 27 7.0-magnitude quake that leveled the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince, killing at least 220,000 people.

The pair were tapped by US President Barack Obama to lead high-profile fundraising campaigns and oversee long-term reconstruction and relief efforts in the country, the poorest nation in the western hemisphere.
