Maldives puts off trial of first leader amid boycott

MALE, Maldives--A court in the Maldives postponed the trial of the country's first elected leader on Monday after he defied a summons and left the capital despite a travel ban imposed on him.

A court official read out a brief statement saying that the case would not be heard Monday as scheduled because Mohamed Nasheed, who was ousted in February, was not present for the hearing.
