Ethiopia will need 529,148 tons of emergency food aid to support 4.8 million people in the first six months of 2010, the United Nations said.
“Despite the collaborative efforts of the government and humanitarian partners to address ongoing humanitarian challenges in Ethiopia, humanitarian needs are expected to remain,” according to a statement posted to the U.N. Web site yesterday.
The figure is down slightly from the 4.9 million people that needed food aid in the drought-prone Horn of Africa country in January this year. The figure was revised to 6.2 million in August.
