Bush to attend award ceremony for Dalai Lama

WASHINGTON -- U.S. President George W. Bush and his wife will attend a ceremony next week to award a Congress medal to the Tibetan leader, the Dalai Lama, despite the risk of angering China, the White House said Wednesday. “The president and Mrs Laura Bush will attend the ceremony,” national security council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said.

The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that a ceremony to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama would be held on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
