Celebrity cosmetic surgeon fined NT$40,000 for illegal operation

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A cosmetic surgeon who reportedly snuck into a hospital outside his practice to sew up celebrity Wu Tan-Ju's stomach moments after her c-section was yesterday given a penalty of NT$40,000 for the illegal operation, reported the Department of Health (DOH) in Taipei.

The doctor, identified as Yang Yi-chih, allegedly snuck into Taipei City Hospital and Taipei Medical University Hospital on two separate occasions to operate on Wu's cut from the Caesarean, likely for cosmetic purposes.

The DOH issued Yang a fine of NT$20,000 per incident and reprimanded the respective hospitals for negligence in management and awareness.

The incident adds more controversy to Wu's highly publicized case of losing her baby after 29 weeks of pregnancy.

44-year-old Wu was forced to have a Caesarean section to deliver her baby girl after only 29 weeks of pregnancy because a twin she was carrying had died from toxemia and needed to be removed.
