Herpes genitalis or genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by herpes simplex virus type 2, characterized primarily by transient blisters on and around the genitals. Because the blisters are transient, patients often think they are cured of the disease. "That's why they were given the diagnosis only in prenatal checkups," Dr. Cheng said. He called on expectant mothers to undergo regular prenatal checkups. "The earlier the stage of the disease," he said, "the earlier the recovery." Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%.
