Low, CNA Taiwan-produced H1N1 vaccine more trustworthy than imports: Adimmune"Our physical characteristics are after all different from those of foreigners, " said Adimmune Corp. Chairman Chan Chi-shean, in a fresh attempt to assure the public of the safety of the vaccine. Chan stressed that the results of the clinical trials show that the vaccine's performance is comparable to the imported product, but he declined to give any further details, saying that the Department of Health (DOH) has not finished screening the results of the trials. Adimmune delivered 5 million doses of the vaccine to the DOH Oct. 30, and is scheduled to deliver another 1.5 million doses in November and 3.5 million doses in December. In an effort to contain the spread of the new flu strain, the DOH launched a free nationwide inoculation program Nov. 1 that targets selected groups considered at risk of infections, with surviving victims from Typhoon Morakot-affected regions and health care personnel being first in line. As the vaccines produced by Adimmune are not expected to hit the market until mid-November pending a complete report on their performance and safety, vaccines supplied by the Swiss-based pharmaceutical firm Novartis are being used in the first weeks of the program.
