Genetic clues discovered for Lou Gehrig’s disease

Researchers sifting through thousands of genes found their first hints at the cause of the common form of Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The research found 10 specific genetic changes that were more widespread in patients with the disease, the scientists said today in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The scientists, led by Travis Dunckley of the Translational Genomics Research Institute in Phoenix, compared the genes of patients with the disease to those who didn’t have it.
