Thyroid cancer patients urged to monitor status

Ahead of World Thyroid Day, physicians urged patients with thyroid cancer to do regular checkups in order to prevent their condition from worsening.

Dr. Shen Hung-yuan (諶鴻遠), of the Tri-Service General Hospital's Department of Nuclear Medicine, said patients with thyroid cancer have an 80 to 90 percent over a 10-year period; however, the prognosis for thyroid cancer is generally more positive than that of other cancers; therefore, patients tend to think after a while that they've passed the worst, while physicians tend to forget to remind patients to continue their checkups.
