Army halts use of malaria drug after death of soldier

The drug Maloprim is no longer handed out to servicemen ahead of training in mosquito-infested areas in the city-state or abroad, The Straits Times reported.

Two alternative drugs are in use instead.

The soldier in the case was recruit Muhammad Sufian Jamil, 18, who died of blood poisoning and multi-organ failure after taking several doses of Maloprim.
