Chinese Fables
Myth makers are an inventive bunch. Faith founders, those who can begin charming people into believing in a supernatural being or power, are even more inventive.
There are a number of modifications to Jing Shi Tong Yan (警世通言), Common Stories to Warn the World. One of them is about the redemption of Lady White.
In the meantime, Lady White has come to know she can become a goddess if she is able to collect enough human tears.
Lady White and Xu Xian, after their encounters with Fahai, are able to lead a happy life in Hangzhou. She gives birth to a baby boy.
Fahai (法海) is the prior at Gold Mountain Temple near Zhenjiang (鎮江). He believes he has to get rid of Bai Suzhen or Lady White, who is a 1,000-year-old white snake ogress in the process of becoming an immortal.
Like the story of the 108 sworn brothers in The Water's Edge or All Men Are Brothers, the story of Lady White has a prologue. The hero Xu Xian (許仙) was an immortal serving at the court of the Jade Emperor.
Zhenjiang (鎮江) is the capital of the province of Jiangsu on the southern bank of the Yangtze River. To its northwest, there is a mountain called Jinshan (金山) or Gold Mountain.
Nezha is one of the most popularly invoked Taoist deities in divination in Taiwan. The faithful gather at temples dedicated exclusively to him or others where he is among the gods and goddesses enshrined on his birthday, the ninth day of the ninth moon on the lunar calendar.

Nezha was an enfant terrible in every sense of that name. He took a forbidden dip in the East Sea to offend the Dragon King. In a fight with an East Sea army that ensued, he killed Prince Aoping (敖丙) of the Dragon King.
Five days after birth, Nezha was baptized in the East Sea, where the Dragon King ruled. The Dragon King wanted to punish the baby for intrusion, and a fierce fight ensued two days later, when the divine enfant terrible was only a week old.
