Well done to the Dalai Lama and President Ma for his visit

I would like to comment on a recent analysis entitled “A three-way tie for loser seen in Dalai Lama visit” which appeared in your newspaper on Sept. 5. Whatever the reasons for the Dalai Lama's visit to Taiwan were, the insinuation that he came here to convert people to raise money for his cause is beyond belief. To suggest that his “fans” were mainly interested in acquiring amulets and other items, rather than having their spiritual leader in their presence is an insult to these people, as well as to all other Buddhists. Does the Pope travel to sell rosaries?

The Dalai Lama is revered globally as a man of peace who has been demonized by a communist bully that not only fears what he stands for, but survives on oppression, fear and a disregard for human rights.

The political implications of the Dalai Lama's have been distorted out of context. Despite the political sword rattling from China, Taiwan will survive. President Ma made his decision based on empathy for the people affected by Morakot. This should overrule political issues, but one would not expect China to understand this.

Well done to him and to the Dalai Lama for the spiritual support he brought to many people.
