The U.S. Postal Service eliminated the cheap international ground/surface shipping services on May 14, 2007. This is the service that took 4-12 weeks for delivery and cost a fraction of the normal first class airmail price. Although there was some warning in their monthly newsletters, which few people read, they blindsided thousands of people around the world that rely on this service.
The loss of this service will affect expatriates, students, especially those living overseas or foreign students living in the U.S., companies, churches, humanitarian aid groups such as the Peace Corps, small businesses, and many more.
As an expatriate living in Taiwan this hurts me personally because I purchase products from U.S. companies many times a year, some items are quite heavy and sending them via first class mail would cost a fortune. Now, I have been forced to stop purchases that I would normally make and have not been able to find a reasonable priced alternative service.
I, like a handful of others, have taken action on this issue to save and bring back this important service. Please visit http://www.petitiononline.com/USPSISM/petition.html to sign the petition if you support our efforts. Currently we have received 1800+ signatures and growing every day, but to bring back this service we are going to need more signatures and more help in spreading the word internationally. If you would like to assist in other ways than just signing the petition, you may contact me directly at email@example.com.
Thank you for your support in advance.
