TAIPEI--Taiwan hopes to play a role in jointly developing the area encompassing the Chinese cities of Beijing and Tianjin and the province of Hebei, the head of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) said Saturday.
TAITRA Chairman Wang Chi-kang said at the Taiwan Trade Fair being held in Tianjin that Taiwanese businesses hope to play a part in the project, a national strategy for China, according to the China News Service.
Wang reportedly said that many small- and medium-sized businesses in Taiwan saw sales balloon by more than 10 times by participating in the Taiwan Trade Fair, now in its fifth year.
He noted that whenever news beaks of a trade fair in Tianjin, the number of Taiwanese companies seeking to participate maxes out almost instantly, the China News Service reported.
Nearly a dozen Taiwanese banking institutions have set up representative offices in Tianjin and more businesses are eying the three districts, especially in terms of the modern service industry such as franchise shops, frozen logistics and finance, the news service reported.
Taiwan's e-commerce, medical and agricultural produce businesses are taking part in the trade fair this year in the hopes of raising brand awareness among Chinese consumers, he reportedly said.
