Low, CNA China to purchase NT$1.25 billion worth of Taiwan farm productsThe commitment was made by a delegation of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, which consists of representatives of cooperatives in 12 Chinese provinces and cities and 13 businesses and is currently on a procurement mission in Taiwan. Contracts for some of the targeted products were signed Monday in Taipei between the delegates and Taiwan's agricultural organizations. Chang Shu-hsien, head of the COA's Department of International Affairs, said the Chinese cooperatives agreed to buy 3,000 metric tons of fruit from Taiwan in the first half of 2010 and another 2,000 metric tons in the second half of the year, with a combined value of NT$200 million. The fruit purchased include oranges, pineapples, jujube, tangerines, bell fruit and star fruit, Chang said. The cooperatives also signed procurement contracts for NT$700 million worth of livestock products with Taiwan's Dachan Great Wall Group and are scheduled to seal more contracts for NT$300 million worth of similar products with Taiwan Farm Industry Co., she said. Also on the shopping list are tea worth between NT$23 million and NT$25 million, processed food worth more than NT$100 million, eniki mushrooms, coffee beans and preserved fruit, according to Chang.
