Chinese athletes may perform in Taiwan next year

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee of Taiwan is expected to sign an agreement with its Chinese counterpart within one week to allow Chinese Olympic medalists from the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games to perform in Taiwan next year, a senior official of the committee in Taipei disclosed yesterday.

Chen Kuo-yi, secretary general of the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee, said that committee chairman Tsai Chen-wei is expected to sign an agreement on the arrangement with Yu Zaiqing, vice president of the Chinese Olympic Committee, who is leading a Chinese delegation on a visit to Taiwan. Yu served as executive vice president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. His visit to Taiwan is part of the annual routine exchanges between the sports entities on the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.

Chen said that no decisions have yet been made on who among the top Chinese athletes will be invited to perform in Taiwan next year, or when and where the performances will take place.
