France calls on China to end its tourism boycott

PARIS -- France called on China Monday to end a boycott by Bejing travel agents of French tourist destinations, saying it violated the spirit of partnership between the two countries. “We understand that verbal instructions have been given to Beijing tourist agencies by municipal authorities to withdraw France as a destination and not offer trips to our country,” said foreign ministry spokeswoman Pascale Andreani. “We have intervened with Chinese authorities and the Beijing mayor’s office to underscore that if such an initiative was confirmed, it would be contrary to the spirit of the partnership that China has with France as well as with the European Union,” she added.
