Bus, truck collide in China; 16 die, 11 injured

BEIJING — A long-distance bus and truck have collided in eastern China, killing 16 people and injuring 11.

The official Xinhua News Agency said Wednesday that five people were instantly killed in Tuesday's accident while 11 others died later at a hospital in Jining, a city in Shandong province.

The report says four of the injured people were in critical condition. Most of the others also suffered serious injuries. Xinhua did not provide details about the accident but said the government was investigating.

China's roads are among the world's most dangerous, with many accidents caused by reckless driving, poor road conditions and overloading of vehicles.
