Macau female panda Xin Xin dies of kidney failure

HONG KONG--Macau says the female half of a giant panda couple that the Asian gambling hub received as a gift from Beijing has died from kidney failure.

The southern Chinese city's government said Monday that the panda did not show any clinical signs of illness during a routine physical exam in May but was uncooperative during training. After a week of treatment, she showed signs of improvement. But over the past two weeks her kidney function deteriorated rapidly.

Panda is a seriously overrated animal! If it wasn't for human help, it would be extinguished already. Go figure - people even have to help it reproduce(!) I once saw the pandas in Taipei ZOO, lying on shelves above each other, reluctant to move - and suddenly the one on the upper shelf started pissing (or shitting?) on the one below. That moment I lost all my respect for the species.
