Facebook shut down political pages in Hong Kong, SCMP says

Facebook Inc. closed the page of the discussion group for the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong on Thursday, Feb. 4 without notice, the South China Morning Post reported, citing Kelvin Sit Tak-O, the group's administrator.

The DAB's page had more than 84,000 members and was aiming for 100,000, the Hong Kong-based, English-language newspaper reported yesterday. Other groups with messages opposing the DAB on the most popular social-networking site were also closed, Sit said in the report.

The pages were closed after opponents flagged the groups to Facebook administrators as abusive, he said. The spokesman at the Palo Alto, California-based company was not available for comment, the Post reported.
